Description

Sign up here if you're interested in joining in the restoration of the Neyotts Meadow and Changeable Furlongs as part of the Thames Valley Wildflower Meadow Restoration Project. (Ignore the dates on the event, the website requires a date in order to create a sign up) This is a long-term project that will start this winter with some hedge-planting and preparing the ground for next year's spreading of wildflower seed. This will be taken in the hay from Long Mead, next July, chopped up and spread with a manure spreader and then rolled.

The rarer and slower-growing plants will be propagated by hand by NRN's Plant Propagation group. We are gathering the seed from Long Mead, now, before it gets cut for hay and will be sowing and potting on over the next year. The Plant Propagation Group meets on Wednesday's 10.30 to 3.00pm and on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays from 1.30pm to 3.00pm.

In both meadows, are a few dominant species such as docks and creeping thistle. Not wanting to use herbicides, we will be organising winter work parties to pull these up by hand and work off the odd Sunday lunch.

There will be also opportunities for joining survey groups, making bird boxes and other habitats. Bring your ideas and muscle!
